Stephen William Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA (8 Janaury 1942 – 14 March 2018) was a British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author and research supervisor at the Center for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge. His scientific work included infinite point theories of gravity in general relativity with Roger Penrose, and the theoretical investigation of radiation emitted by black holes as Hawking radiation. Hawking was the first to propose a law of the universe that could be explained by a combination of general relativity and quantum mechanics. He strongly supported the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics.
